The Savannah College of Art and Design paid $7.3 million on Aug. 20 for 1123 Louisville Road, a warehouse and freight-yard site Estes Express Lines had owned since 1987, when it cost $130,000 -- more than ten times the site's 2026 appraised value of $704,400.
A SCAD spokesperson said the university plans to use the site for logistics while it studies long-term options. It is SCAD's fourth Louisville Road-area purchase since December 2025, adding to roughly $22.5 million spent on a former fire station near Bull and Henry streets, a demolished office building at 1211 Bull St. and a $9.75 million parcel at 2337 Louisville Road earmarked for film-complex parking, as SCAD Savannah Film Studios prepares to open the city's first dedicated industry-ready soundstage this fall.
Why it matters
SCAD's buying spree along Louisville Road, four properties in nine months, is quietly assembling the land base for a full film-production campus on Savannah's west side.
