The 2009 hotel at 102 West Bay Street, built by Richard Kessler and long known as the Bohemian, reopened in early September under a new name and operator. Hotel Orielle keeps its 75 rooms and its place in Marriott's Autograph Collection but adds Coastal 15, a Lowcountry seafood restaurant, and Rocks on the Roof, a rooftop bar over River Street.

Davidson Hospitality Group now manages the property. Rooms start around $279 a night, and the lobby carries new work by SCAD-trained artists Lillian Blades and Katherine Sandoz.

Why it matters

One of the riverfront's marquee hotels changed hands and identity, keeping its Autograph Collection flag while adding a rooftop bar and restaurant aimed at River Street foot traffic.
