Colonial Terminals, a subsidiary of Savannah-based Colonial Group, started operations at Foundation 3 on the Savannah River. The site covers about 25 acres and is built to run around the clock, with an 810-foot heavy-capacity dock, more than 14,000 feet of on-site rail track with terminal-operated switching, two warehouses totaling 130,000 square feet, and a 75,000-square-foot outdoor storage pad.
It ties into Norfolk Southern rail service and to Interstates 16 and 95, and handles steel, forest products and project cargo. Colonial and Norfolk Southern first announced the facility in 2023 as a project of more than $100 million, with adjacent land held for future expansion.
It adds dedicated breakbulk and project-cargo capacity to a port known mostly for containers.
