A push to make Peachtree Circle in Ansley Park a protected historic district cleared two hurdles this week, winning support from Neighborhood Planning Unit-E and the city's Zoning Review Board. The Atlanta City Council will take the final vote at its Aug. 24 or Sept. 8 meeting.
The effort began in January after the demolition of 205 Peachtree Circle, an American Craftsman-style home that had stood for more than a century. It is the second attempt at historic protection for the street; an earlier push collapsed in 2022 after residents split over the idea.
Some neighbors are still asking for more time to weigh how a historic designation would affect property values, taxes and future renovations.
