Gas South District broke ground Sept. 3, 2026 on a $175 million renovation and expansion of Gas South Arena in Duluth, adding a 1,000-space parking deck, an expanded arena entrance, new loge seating, private suites, and a premium club with personal seat licenses, plus modernized digital signage and upgraded concessions. Gas South District targets completion by early 2028.
Why it matters
It's a rare scale of rework for one publicly affiliated arena at once. New suites, a premium club and a bigger parking deck point to Gas South District competing for larger bookings and longer-term events once construction wraps, but the district has not yet said how the arena will handle bookings during the roughly year-and-a-half build.
What to watch
Watch for Gas South District to say whether the arena stays open for events during construction, and for the district to release renderings of the finished spaces.
