Alpharetta City Council voted 4-3 to rezone roughly 99 acres at North Point Mall for Jamestown and New York Life's sports-and-entertainment district. The plan allows a roughly 20,000-seat arena, up to 1,385 apartments, 750,000 square feet of offices, 565,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, hotels and a 4,000-seat music hall.
The entitlement makes the concept possible, but an NHL franchise, arena financing and a construction date are still unresolved.
Why it matters
The vote clears the land-use hurdle for metro Atlanta's most developed proposal to pair mall redevelopment with an NHL bid.
