Atrium Health says it will invest more than $700 million with Morehouse School of Medicine in a teaching hospital and medical campus at 675 Metropolitan Parkway in Southwest Atlanta. The hospital is planned to open with about 50 beds, a 24/7 emergency department and Level III trauma care, replacing some capacity lost when Atlanta Medical Center closed in 2022.

Atlanta City Council has separately asked Fulton County for $200 million, but no county commitment was found in the public record.

Why it matters

Southwest Atlanta has lacked a nearby full-service hospital since the 2022 Atlanta Medical Center closures.
