The Sandy Springs Development Authority adopted a bond resolution on Aug. 26 that finalizes the 10-year, $2.54 million property tax abatement the City Council approved Aug. 18 for Woodfield Development's North River redevelopment. Together with $1.78 million in waived recreation and permit fees, the package is worth about $4.3 million.
It clears the way to replace the aging North River Shopping Center at 8830 Roswell Road with 336 apartments, 85 for-sale townhomes, retail and a new 0.71-acre public park, a project the city values above $150 million. Construction is expected to start later this year once Woodfield closes on about 8 of the 13 acres.
Why it matters
It is the first big move under Sandy Springs' North End revitalization plan, which aims to trade tired Roswell Road shopping centers for housing and public space along the corridor.
